Career coaching is a transformational experience. And, as we know, big changes can be a bit scary. So, when considering hiring a career coach, we usually have a lot of questions. Let's see if we can answer these questions for you to help you determine if career coaching is a good fit for you!
What is a Career Coach / What's the Difference Between Career Coaching and Counseling?
In addition to being a Certified Career Coach and Certified Life Coach, I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, and for many years I provided counseling services. Today, I no longer provide counseling, I provide career coaching and life coaching. You might be wondering--how is coaching different from counseling?
Counseling (also referred to as therapy) involves diagnosing psychological dysfunction and helping clients manage deeper level clinical disorders and personality disorders. Counseling often explores a client's past and utilizes insights gained to resolve psychological and emotional traumas. Gaining insight is often a core focus of counseling.
Career Coaching involves helping clients who are feeling stuck in achieving their goals to get unstuck. Career Coaching is present and future-focused and does not delve into a client's past, except to identify and transform old, limiting patterns.
As your career coach, I focus on exploring your career goals, as well as identifying the obstacles getting in the way of achieving those career goals. I guide you in creating a roadmap for achieving what you desire in your career. I partner with you to design and implement actionable steps and benchmarks toward your career goals, strategies for maintaining motivation and inspiration along the way, and customized follow-through and accountability methods.
Career coaching is very action driven. I also help you celebrate and savor your successes! Because self-talk is at the core of my RESCRIPT Framework, as we work on your specific career goals, we simultaneously work on helping you eliminate negative self-talk patterns and develop a positive internal dialogue. By learning and maintaining empowering self-talk strategies, you gain the most important fuel for achieving what you desire. Through our career coaching partnership, we help you RESCRIPT your career story!
What Types of Goals Do You Help Clients Work on as a Career Coach?

Can You Share More About Your RESCRIPT Framework?
As a Career Coach, I've developed my own framework for helping my clients quiet negative self talk and become their own best advocates while working toward their career goals.
We have two very different mental narrators who talk to us in our minds—the Inner Antagonist and the Inner Advocate.
Your Inner Antagonist is your story’s inner opposing force. It tells you that you have disorder, conflict, weaknesses, and deficits within and around you, and that you do not have what it takes to resolve any of it. Your Inner Antagonist can also lead you to act in ways that are not aligned with your values and ultimate desires.
Your Inner Advocate has your back. It’s your inner ally, supporter, encourager, and collaborative problem solver. It tells you that you’re strong and capable. It reminds you of all the resources you have within and around you. It reminds you of the wisdom you’ve gained from life experience. It tells you that you can overcome anything. To amplify our Inner Advocate, we must RESCRIPT:
